Editorial: We saved the economy; now for the world

20/09/09

The Copenhagen Conference is a distraction from the underlying, Darwinian, cause of the Sustainability Problem.

Man is an ANIMAL, a product of Darwinian evolution, more interested than in anything else in exploiting his environment in his primordial struggle for survival, advantage and "success", now perversely misplaced to include human society itself (which state and economy developed to facilitate), where it has largely been reduced to the pursuit and exercise of POWER (money, social and professional status, etc).

Until we recognizes this, we cannot escape it (the Copenhagen Conference being just a distraction), but will continue along the road to self-destruction.

Unfortunately, our large "prime-ape" brain, having evolved to interpret reality (i.e. the environment) so as to facilitate its own advantage and "success" in it, blinds itself (through rationalizations) to objective reality.

Only a human-evolutionary, i.e. Darwinian, approach to understanding our situation can lead us to an objective assessment of it, but again, the prodigious powers of our own brain (having evolved in and for such a different environment) conspire (subconsciously) against us.
