Science needs more Apollos

Mars is the next big inspirational adventure. And after that, mining the asteroid belt, engineering large scale structures in space, and eventually exploring outside of the solar system.

This could only be written by someone inspired more by a love of science fiction than of actual science.

If we ever want to get to Mars, and feel good about it, which I hope one day we will, first we have to get our priorities right, which means recognising and developing an understanding of the root cause of the existential problems we have here on Earth, before they put an end to all our aspirations.

This root cause lies in our own Darwinian nature and the civilisation it has given rise to.
