Re: Terror is terror is a crime - especially when committed by ourselves
Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999

Dear Sir,

I quite agree with Andrew Busigin's contention (Wide of the mark, Feedback, 14 Oct 1999) that any intentional bombing of civilians is an act of terror and should be condemned as such, but I am surprised that in his short list of examples he includes the bombing of Yugoslavia, when Nato went to great pains to minimise civilian casualties. Unfortunately his mistake detracts from the very important point that follows from his argument: If we wish to be credible rather than hypocritical when condemning modern acts of terror we must also condemn the acts of terror that we ourselves and our allies have committed in the past.

"But that was WAR" I hear someone say. Which is exactly what modern terrorists also claim.
