£7,000 for man
after suicide bid is shown on
TV By Joshua Rozenberg, Legal Editor (Filed: 29/01/2003) A man whose
life was saved when he was
filmed by security cameras as
he tried to cut his wrists in
a town centre was awarded £7,820
yesterday because the local
council allowed footage of his
attempted suicide to be shown
on the BBC's Crime Beat. The European
Court of Human Rights held
that Geoffrey Peck, 47, had
been deprived of his right to
respect for his private life. He had been
suffering from depression in
August 1995 when he tried to
kill himself with a kitchen
knife in Brentwood, Essex. |
