The mainstream of our socio-economic order has become a raging torrent, caught up in which, most people feel that nothing can be done about it, that they just have to ride with it and manage as best they can. It is true, there is no point in struggling against the current. But we don't have to ride with it. Given the will and a bit of intelligence, we can create calm backwaters. And as those still struggling in the raging torrent notice how much nicer life in the calm backwaters is, they will want to join us. In so doing the raging torrent will slowly be transformed into a mosaic of pleasant backwaters. They may not be as exciting or as lucrative (certainly not as materialistic) as the raging torrent, but they will offer a humane, just, satisfying and sustainable way of life, and ensure the survival and prosperity of coming generations. |
