In response to a leader in today's Sunday Telegraph,
"CDs won't stop
terrorists", lamenting attitudes of and towards British
Muslims.
I don't understand British Muslim complacency and
self-defensiveness in respect to militant Islam in
our
midst.
How many Madrid's or 7/7's do they think Europeans will
take on the chin, before they elect governments very
different to the ones we have at the moment and far less
bothered about Muslims' human rights? When you are under
threat the rules change.
I'm not worried for my own sake, but for the sake of
likeable Muslims who live here. Because
eventually there will
be a terrible backlash if this terrorist threat
(let alone its repeated realization) should continue
for very long. If it does come to a
"war of civilisations" we will all be losers, but by far
the biggest losers will be Muslims, especially those
living in Europe.
If they don't recognise their responsibility for it and
deal with the problem they will regret it sorely. But,
unfortunately, most Muslims don't even see Islamic
militancy as their particular problem, are even inclined
to blame it on the British government.
Islamic militants remind me of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi
party, who wanted to greatly expand German territory, but
ended up greatly reducing it.
Muslims urgently need to recognise the threat
posed by militant Islam to their
own future in
Europe.
