Re: The Florida stalemate requires a new state-wide election
Date: Tue, 14 Nov 2000

Dear Sir/Madam,

Following the Florida stalemate form Europe, it seems to me that it is the Bush camp which has given the  situation its very ugly turn by refusing to accept that the election is still undecided and may possibly not go in their favour.

They were thrown the bone (of the presidency) prematurely, and are now standing over it growling and snapping at anyone threatening to take it away from them.

If the Republicans force a quick decision that goes in their favour the Democrats will understandably feel cheated,  while the Republicans will feel cheated (rightly or wrongly after all the rhetoric and accusations) if Gore should prevail.

This could prove disastrous for the presidency of either man.

What is needed now is a state-wide revote, which (hopefully!) will produce a clear winner.

There is no need - and every reason not - to rush things.
