Re: When immigrants commit serious crimes, don't jail them - just send them home!
Date: Friday 15 October 04

Dear Sir/Madam,

Nigerian ex-detective and council finance director jailed for childcare scam

The two Nigerian immigrants involved in the childcare scam, reported in today's Guardian, have shamefully abused the hospitality shown to them by this country. At the British taxpayers' further expense, they will now be kept in prison for a few years, before being released. If their past behaviour is anything to go by, they will continue to cost the country dearly, either by committing further crimes or by living off social benefits -  or both.

Instead of jailing them, they should have their British passports taken away and be sent back to their country of origin. That would be justice; it would also save the British taxpayer a lot of money and serve as a deterrent to others.

What about their families? They can go back to Nigeria with them.

What about their human rights? After abusing us, their hosts, with such criminal contempt, we should consider ourselves absolved from any concern for their human rights. Let the human-rights lawyers find other, more worthy cases, to make a living from. And if any left-wing, liberal do-gooders feel that I'm being too harsh, let them take full responsibility for the pair of them in their community - and foot the bill for any further costs they cause.
