SIR - What's all the fuss about the Labour Party's new logo? [The new image 'Cross my heart' logo mystifies Labour Mps, 5 February 2001]

To me it seems like a great logo.

I particularly like the fact that it was produced in-house, by people with their own hearts in the matter rather than by some outside agency working for an exorbitant fee.

The union of heart and head symbolises a wonderful ideal that politicians in particular need to be reminded of.

One piece of symbolism, however, seems to have been missed, or perhaps overlooked, in your article: the "orange splodge" - which to me looks like an ear, thus symbolising the ideal of listening to what people have to say.

Instead of ridiculing it, let us take the logo seriously and use it to remind ourselves and Labour politicians of the noble ideals it symbolises, no matter what your political allegiances may be.
