Re:    India's motorisation
Date:  Monday 5 December 05

Dear Sir/Madam,

A little while ago I read an article in the NYT on how China is becoming motorised. Today it was about India's motorisation ("In Today's India, Status Comes With Four Wheels"). Two countries which between them are home to about 2.5 billion people.

What are we going to tell our children and grandchildren when they ask us why we didn't do anything to avoid the catastrophe that even a child can see we were, quite literally, driving towards?

About one thing, at least, Lenin seems to have been right: a capitalist will sell you the nails to hammer down the lid of his own coffin. One might add, the coffins of his children and grandchildren, as well.
