Re: Familiar tactics

Dear Sir/Madam,

Following the spy plane standoff between China and the United States (China Is Demanding That U.S. Do More to End Standoff, April 8, 2001), I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed the similarity between the unsavoury tactics the Chinese Government is currently applying to America and those the Bush campaign used against Al Gore following the Florida stalemate.

Instead of admitting that there has been an accident (a stalemate) and conceding that it might have been the fault of (been won by) either side, in ruthless pursuit of their political objectives they immediately claim the moral high ground, putting the blame (for the accident/stalemate) completely on the other side and demanding that they do the “decent” thing and apologise (concede).

To me it is quite plain which side is showing a complete lack of decency. It is a nasty, calculating thing they are doing, which I hope doesn’t pay off for the Chinese as it did for Governor Bush.
