In response to
leader in today's Sunday
Telegraph, "Green
blinkers"
The author of this leader manages to combine an
exceptional degree of insight, into the self-interests of
those demanding action on climate change (even
environmentalists have niches and livings to justify and
defend) and that "no one would [knowingly] condemn his
grandchildren to extinction simply to suck up to ExxonMobil", with an equally exceptional degree of
blindness and denial.
We are ALL completely immersed in, familiar with and
dependent on the "existing" socio-economic order (i.e.
our economy and way of life). The first two
circumstances make any objective assessment (and be it
o' so scientific) extremely difficult. But if such an
objective assessment were achieved and revealed the need
for rapid, radical (i.e. revolutionary) change to our
economy and way of life, in order to avoid catastrophe
for our grandchildren, our current complete dependency
on and massive vested interests in it would make it
extremely difficult to accept. Thus I explain the
author's blindness and denial and implore him/her to
reconsider the evidence.
