SIR - How tiresome to have Roger Hicks repeating the environmentalist lies about the car "threatening civilisation" [On your bike, Feedback, 31 January 2001]. And to think I once believed this Greenpeace propaganda The Telegraph enlightened me with its revelation in the Motoring Section: it seems that the motor car is responsible for just an insignificant 0.5 per cent of greenhouse gas pollution. Now I realise that it is all merely an excuse for a rapacious government to squeeze the motorist dry. Attack something else, Mr Hicks - the anti-car line is no longer credible. And as for the rest of us: drive on! |
