Re: A DNA database for dogs

Date: Monday 28 March 05

Dear Sir/Madam,

In Dresden there are plans for all dogs to be registered and genetically profiled, so that when owners fail to clean up the messes their pets deposit in public places they can be traced and made to pay the costs for its removal ("Dresden dogs in DNA mess"). It is an idea that I'd thought of myself, but had assumed would be prohibitively expensive. But if they can afford to do it in Dresden, then I'm sure we can afford to do it in Britain as well. In which case, I'm all for the idea.

I'm sick of inconsiderate dog owners leaving their pets' poohs for the rest of us to step around - if we are fortunate enough to notice and not step into them.
