Dear editor,
According to
an article in
today's
Observer,
"Kenneth
Clarke, the
Tory
leadership
hopeful, faces
growing
pressure to
quit his job
with a major
tobacco firm"
(Tory
hopeful Clarke
'must cut
tobacco tie').
In my view, anyone so closely and profitably associated with the tobacco industry as Kenneth Clarke is totally unsuitable for public office, and thus as the leader of any political party. Despite all the evidence for the terrible harm it does (causing millions of premature deaths worldwide every year) the tobacco industry continues to spend billions of dollars promoting its deadly products in pursuit of commercial and financial interests - which Kenneth Clarke shamelessly profits from. He has the same moral fibre as a criminal drugs baron, and should be running from the law rather than for public office! |
