Re: Towards a new Golden Age of Railways (the Chunnel link IS worth it!)

Dear Sir/Madam,

The continued expansion of road and air transport is based on the criminal plundering of our planet’s natural resources, which even now is threatening to disrupt world climate and the ecosystems on which all life depends. Rail transport conversely is perfectly sustainable, which is why the Chunnel link IS worth it (Chunnel link 'not worth it', 28 March 2001).

When we finally decide that we love our children more than our cars and freedom of the skies, by steadily increasing the price of vehicle and aviation fuel, we will start to reduce road and air travel to sustainable levels – and a new and long-lived golden age of railways will begin.
