What I have heard about the court battle to
force doctors to keep the prematurely born and severely
handicapped Charlotte alive having cost the taxpayer half
a million pounds suggests to me who the real culprits in this
tragic saga are: the lawyers who fought the case and to whom
most of this money, no doubt, went; and, of course, the tabloid
press, who fed off the story like vultures (as
it is their nature and business to do).
The couple themselves, it seems, are not the brightest or most
mature of people. They did not behave
responsibly (first fighting for and then abandoning their
daughter), but far more culpable are the "clever people", no
doubt, pillars of respectable British society, who exploited
them for their own "moral" and financial advantage.
