Dear Sir/Madam,

Reading the two articles referred to above in today’s NYT I felt like I was listening to a group of intellectuals sitting round a table on the beach, enjoying the fine weather, sipping beer and discussing the tsunami they have heard is approaching, but still out of sight beyond the horizon.

Only when they can actually see the mountain of water that is bearing down on them will they appreciate the danger they are in. But it will be too late.

You think I’m being alarmist? You bet I am! I can see the danger. I'm jumping up and down screaming!!

We have a problem that is so big and threatening that, when you do glimpse it, is difficult not to want to turn away from and deny.

We owe it to our children and coming generations not to do that - but to face up to it and do (or stop doing) whatever is necessary to ensure their future.

Yours sincerely
