Dear Editors,
Today's editorial,
"A waste of energy", portrays a
ridiculous and tragic situation in
respect to the American government's response to
global warming and the country's dependency on
fossil fuels (and other non-renewal resources).
But it is a situation that has been building for
decades and which successive administrations -
voted into power by the American people! - are
responsible for.
The most important, but
difficult, thing to recognize is just how blind
and stupid WE have been (and still are) - not
just, but particularly and most influentially,
those in wealth, power and authority. We have
spent the past 30 years ignoring warnings about
the consequences of an ever increasing
population of technologically empowered, but
essentially insatiable human beings on
our finite and vulnerable planet. And in so
doing, WE are betraying our own children and
grandchildren.
Far from admiring our
achievements, as we are fond of
imagining they will, they will despise and curse us for
our stupidity and selfishness.
