Report Faults Big Companies on Climate, July 10, 2003

Dear Sir/Madam,

Because of the vast differences in scale, what took only seconds to become apparent aboard Apollo 13, when its life-support systems were damaged on its way to the Moon, is taking years (decades) aboard Spaceship Earth. Although, for those with eyes to see, the signs are clear enough.

Telling most companies or individuals about the consequences of their actions on Earth's dwindling natural resources, climate and environment is like telling a smoker or alcoholic about the consequences of his addiction: he will always find excuses for continuing. But as with the human liver, there is also a limit to how much abuse our planet's vital organs (natural resources, climate, ecosystems) can tolerate . . .

You may think my analogy far fetched. I assure you, it is not.

But as with any addiction, we cannot even begin to solve our PROBLEM until we face up to the fact that we have ONE.
